High School Golf Results

2009 AIA 5A Division I Girls State Championship - Aguila Golf Course - November 9-10, 2009

There was a certain buzz about Tuesday's final round of the Class 5A Division I Girls Golf State Tournament. Hamilton had a 1-shot lead after the opening round, but gave up the win to Xavier Prep.   Hamilton came in 2nd out of the 14 schools that played. Saki Iida had a two-day total of (142) for 2nd place, Kyung Kim (143) for 3rd place, Mikayla Harmon (144) for 4th place and Younjin Kim (150) for 5th place. Senior Molly Denton shot an (81) on day one and teammate Helen Kim shot an (83) on day two.

Perry HS Boys Golf Jordan Lowery placed 5th with a two-day score of (145). Perry placed 4th out of the 14 school teams that participated.

2009 AIA 5A Division I Boys State Championship - November 9-10, 2009 
The Hamilton HS Boys Varisty Golf team methodically stretched its 13-stroke first-round lead into a 28-stroke victory at Papago Golf Course to win its fifth straight Class 5A Division I championship. Senior CJ Kim and Junior Cameron Palmer shot the tournament's only subpar rounds, a 2-under 70 and a 1-under 71, respectively.   "This is the culmination of the success we had the whole year," Kanner said. "The kids always seem to play well at the right time. This team seems to have a knack for doing that."

The Perry HS Boys Golf team had a very successful Fall Break winning 3 matches and 1 tournament
On October 13th the Pumas traveled to Western Skies to tee it up with Gilbert and Highland and came away victorious in the triangular match.  Garrett Moss earned medalist honors shooting 1 under 36.  Moss was helped along by Jake Argento and Thomas Felling. Perry outscored Highland by 10 and Gilbert by 13.

To round out a great week, the Pumas competed in the Dorado Invitational in Rio Rico Arizona last weekend against 18 other teams from the state.  After a shaky first round, the Pumas roared back from 5
th to 1st on Saturday to take the team championship by 5 shots.

IMG_7692_720_x_480And finally, the boys defeated Carl Hayden yesterday in a dual match held at Aguila Golf Course. The boys put together their best scores of the season as we head to the home stretch.  Thomas Felling earned 1st place by shooting  a 2 under par 34. He was followed closely by Jacob Smith (35), Jordan Lowery (36), Jake Argento (36), Garrett Moss (37), Brandon Carlson (38), Alex Lobeck (40), and Greg Gilfillan at 42.

Dobson High School Invitational – September 12, 2009

The Hamilton HS Boy’s Golf team fired a team total of 432 (-4) to win their third straight title at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa.  Senior C.J. Kim won the individual title with scores of 37-67 – 104,finishing five under par for 27 holes.  Tied for 8
th place were Chun Ji Kim (43-66 -109) and Ken Iida (38-71 – 109), who both finished at even par.  Cameron Palmer (38-75 – 113) and Doug Murphy (39-78 – 117) also played well for the Huskies.


The Perry HS Boy’s Golf team finished sixth at Dobson Ranch.  The Pumas shot 451 as a team, and were led by sophomore Jacob Smith (37-72 – 109) who tied for 8
th place.  Garrett Moss (38-73 – 113), Jordan Lowrey (39-75 – 114), Jake Argento (41-77 – 118) and Dalton Basha (42-76 – 118) rounded out the team for this event.

 

Brophy Prep Invitational – September 5, 2009

The Hamilton HS Boy’s Golf team played in the Brophy Prep Invitational at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, and came away with an eight-shot win.  The Huskies placed four players in the top twelve individually, led by Chun Ji Kim in 2nd place with scores of (35-74 -109).  Cameron Palmer (42-71 – 113) tied for 3rd place, and Ken Iida (37-77 – 114) finished sixth.  Also competing for the Huskies were Aaron Wong (39-78 – 117) who finished in 12th place, and Kyan Palmer (41-83 – 124).

 

Bart Granger Memorial Tournament - September 20, 2009
The Hamilton HS Boy's Golf team played in the prestigious Bart Granger Memorial Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. The team played very well and finished in 2nd place out of 52 teams including the best high school golf teams in Texas. Heading into the final round with a 7 shot lead the Huskies couldn't hold off a talented team from Reagan HS (San Antonio) who fired a strong round of 281 (+1) to keep the 1st place trophy in Texas by just two strokes. Last year HHS finished in 3rd place at the Bart Granger.

HHS senior C.J. Kim took home the 1st place (tie) individual trophy  (out of over 250 players) with impressive rounds of 68-67-67=202 (-10). The is C.J.'s second consecutive tournament win! Twin brother Chun Ji KIim played very well and finished in a tie for 8th place with rounds of 70-69-74=213. Freshman Kyan Palmer (71-71-73=215) also played solidly and finished in 15th place. Junior Cameron Palmer (74-73-76=223 53rd place) and sophomore Ken Iida (86-73-76=235 124th place) rounded out the team effort.

2009 AIA 5A Division II Boys State Championship - November 9-10, 2009

Fresman Blake Cannon drilled a 15-foot birdie putt on 18 for a second straight 69 and captured the Class 5A Division II boys golf championship at 6-under par.
"I was kind of buried in the rough over there," Cannon said. "I knew my only chance of making birdie was laying it up and trying to hit a  close. "I was shaking. I just wanted to get that ball in the hole."



Horizon HS Boy's Golf Freshman Blake Cannon drilled a 15-foot birdie putt on 18 for a second straight 69 and captured the Class 5A Division II boys golf championship at 6-under par. "I was kind of buried in the rough over there," Cannon said. "I knew my only chance of making birdie was laying it up and trying to hit a wedge shot close."I was shaking. I just wanted to get that ball in the hole."

Regional Tournament at Maryvale Golf Club in Phoenix - November 2-3, 2009
The Hamilton HS Boy's Golf team shot an incredible 23 under par team score over two days. That is a new Arizona High School State Record!! The team won by 37 shots over a strong Red Mountain HS team and secured the #1 seed at next week's state tournament. The team was led by senior C.J. Kim who shot a career best and school record round of (64). Junior Cameron Palmer also shot a personal best round of (66) as did sophomore Ken Iida (67).

Ridge Invitational - October 16-17, 2009
Hamilton HS
Boy's Golf team played in the Ridge Invitational at the Continental Country Club Golf Course in Flagstaff, AZ which is nestled in the pines at the foot of the San Francisco Peaks. It is a challenging course with fun-to-play par 3's and demanding par 5's.  The course totals 6,014 yards. C.J. Kim shot a two-day total of 109 to help bring the win to Hamilton by two shots.

Perry HS Boy's Golf Team had a very successful Fall Break

On October 6 Perry defeated Notre Dame, Mclintock, and Campo Verde in a home match at Trilogy golf course.  Garrett Moss was medalist shooting 1 under 34 for 9 holes.  Jake Argento shot 36 for Perry in the event.
