Honoring Cliff Whittle, PGA
The Whittle Cup was held at Bear Creek on July 10, 2009 on the Cub Back Nine.
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for young people to play golf and have fun at various golf courses with other young people in a developmental team golf league with learning the skills to play safe, fast & courteous as the main objectives. As a result of this experience, these young people will learn life skills through the peer interaction and through the playing the game of golf.
Golf Courses: Augusta Ranch, Bear Creek,
Qualifications: Age 17 & under. This is a DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE to introduce youngsters to the game of golf with team competition. Each Junior must NOT have competed in any JGAA, US KIDS GOLF, SWSPGA or any other such sanctioned Junior Golf competition (as determined by the Cliff Whittle Cup professionals) within the past 12 months.
Course Qualifying Rounds: Each Golf Course will host a qualifying round at their facility 7-2 days prior to each scheduled match to determine 8 players and their seed for match play. Each golf course is required to submit their team with correct ages and the order of their players (seed) to the Host Golf Course at least 48 hours prior to the matches. The entry blanks and entry monies will be delivered to the Host golf course or professional on the day of the match.
Host Golf Course: The Host Golf Course is responsible for the golf course set-up such as tee boxes for the various age groups (8 & Under, 9-10, 11-12 and 13 & up), tee times, scorecard preparations, #1 Tee Starter, scoreboard, scoring, volunteers, water, food, billing, awards presentation and other pertinent duties deemed appropriate to facilitate a FUN event for the Juniors.
Cliff Whittle Cup Format: Match Play with points as follows: 1 pt holes 1-3, 1 pt holes 4-6, 1 pt holes 7-9. One golf course team will compete against another golf course team, such as #1 from
Team Caps: Each Golf Course will supply their team with Cliff Whittle Cup team caps for the Matches. Once a junior receives a team cap, he/she will keep this cap & wear this cap to the matches that they qualify for. To represent a Golf Course, each player MUST wear the supplied Team Cap.
Entry Fee: $5.00 per Junior per match includes Golf, Food, Drinks, Warm-up Range Balls, Team Cap, and Awards.
Parents/Adults: Are to provide unconditional love & unwavering support. Parents/adults are responsible for the junior’s arrival to & departure from the host facility. Parents/adults are encouraged and asked to assist with the pace of play, scoring or other needs with the matches. Parents/adults are encouraged to be spectators but are not allowed to give any advice or interfere with the juniors. Just be supportive and assist with pace of play, safety & etiquette.
Juniors: Will be required to walk and will carry their own golf bag or use a pull cart. Riding in a motorized golf car or using a caddie is not allowed. Proper etiquette & sportsmanship will be observed. The main purpose of this program is learning to play golf in a FAST, SAFE & COURTEOUS manner.
Freeman Theriault Trophy: Will be awarded during each match date to the Junior displaying the best sportsmanship and integrity as voted on by the course professionals. This trophy is named after a Junior Golf supporter who donates his time and resources to junior golfers with unending love for them and the game of golf.
